Happy New Year, y’all!

I am being insufferably lazy for the New Year. I’ve stirred off the couch only to make coffee, smear a piece of gluten-free banana bread with Nutella (if Nutella has gluten in it, I don’t want to know about it), and cook up an entire loaf of challah French toast for NS. (You can refrigerate the extras and reheat them later; it’s a nice timesaver and keeps him fed later in the week.)

Later on, I’m doing traditional Hoppin’ John, non-traditional red cabbage (I know, I know, green’s the color of money, but I think my life could use some red this year, and besides, I wanted red cabbage), some bratwurst and some potato salad. Not German potato salad, either; I want the authentic comfort-food stuff. I’ll make mac and cheese for NS, along with his chocolate pound cake. You may or may not get another post with details and photos, not that there’s anything new in any of that. So I figured I’d take this opportunity to bid all of you a happy and prosperous 2012, and may it be everything you want it to be.

And you and y’mama ‘n ’em come on over and have some Hoppin’ John. A pound of black-eyed peas makes a ton of that stuff.
